Are you smoking something? The LGPL has a always been GPL compatible,
there is even a specific mention of it in the LGPL text:
"3. You may opt to apply the terms of the ordinary GNU General Public
License instead of this License to a given copy of the Library."
The basis for something being GPL compatible is being relicensable to
the GPL due to the viral effect of the GPL. Which means of course as
long as you keep the GPL piece of code the whole application would need
to be distributed under the terms of the GPL, but it also means that if
someone don't want to do that they would just need to rip out the GPL
code and they can distribute they thing under the terms of the LGPL.
