I did mean to write a bunch of scripts as a way of providing some
examples and regression testing. I haven't had time to do that yet - if
anyone's interested, please let me know.

Yeah, another bad example :/
We still have things like Galeon, Gimp, Epiphany, File Roller,
Sodipodi...
It's all a question of good marketing ;)
