I was messing up with my system this night and tried to configure the
nVidia drivers to test the hardware acceleration.  With the latest
driver (1.0-41XX, or something like that) seems to solve the problem, it
switches the tabs as fast as de default GTK+ theme.

What video card are u using??  may be you don't have hardware
acceleration.

Unfortunally for me, the latest driver seems to have a bug, something
like a broken implementation of the XRENDER extension IIRC that causes a
very very VERY! bad performance in some common situations, like moving
windows around the desktop. (Damn! crap propietary drivers)

Older versions of the driver (1.0-21XX) doesnt have this bug but the tab
switching is a bit slower. :-(


Making aditional testing about the tab switching I saw that, for
example, it is faster on the nautilus or galeon preferences window than
in the gnome-system-monitor main window.  May be the complexity of the
widgets have part of the blame. Or may be the fact that these widgets
are not using SVG images are the main reason... Just a thought. ;-)
