i'm more concerned about the implementation at this point, as especially
the gwmh API isn't in very wide use currently.

that being said, some issues i raised when this idea came up originally are still
outstanding, mainly:

i first want to review the changes in question before anything of that
gies into deskguide CVS HEAD.
