This is an issue that we have been discussing informally and recently
in the board of directors call.

The proposal I have been talking to people about is to integrate
various of the components that have reached a level of matturity and
stability into the foundations for the GNOME 2.0 platform.

What I have suggested in the past goes along these lines:

	* Drop the dead code from GNOME libs or code that is
superseded by code in Gtk+ 2.0.

	* Include the GNOME VFS in the core gnome-libs 2.0 (or a part
of it? I am not sure).

	* Include the core of Bonobo (or all of the "foundation" parts
          of it) in gnome-libs 2.0.

	* Move some of the widgets from Gal into Gtk+ or GnomeLibs 2.0
as maturity permits. Indeed, I hope that at least the
new ComboBox gets in some way or another into Gtk+ 2.0

Miguel.
