A better way would be to have the page have a bg pixmap, but put make the news
items box have a solid color background. this way we could shade the shade the
shadew of an icon to the bg color. I made a quick hack to show this:
http://widget.gnome.org/~drc/jeepo/gnotices.html
( Only the first box is fixed )
Since the original bg image had so little contrast, you don't notice where the
bg image ends and the box starts. With this we could have a bg image with more
contrast¸ if we'd want to.
Even better would be to make borders around the boxes, like my homepage:
http://widget.gnome.org/~drc/. Unfortunatelly my home page doesn't render in
ns4 correctly. There are two ways to do this: CSS and tables. CSS would be the
right way, but the problem is, the page wont work in ns4. Using tables would be
bad because it would significantly increase the load time of the page. Just
look at Advogato, the rendering time is way too long, but if we need to support
ns4, were pretty much out of options.
