Not only working on, practicing it!

I doubt. The automated GUI testing is a VCL (OpenOffice's GUI abstraction 
layer) feature. I don't know if the test scripts and tools itself are 
open source, but the base for this feature is in VCL. Check 
http://gsl.openoffice.org.
