Thanks. *The* real question, is what impact, if any,
these patents might have on what can be done legally
in the GNOME GUI. Especially disconcerning to me is
that the abstract for the patent says that the taskbar
*may* have a start menu, which might imply that the
GNOME tasklist itself may infringe.

Do you know if any patent attorneys had already looked
at this sort of thing already, or if they plan to
research possible patent infringments by GNOME
software?
