They annoy me too. It would be nice though if the GTK toolbar widget itself
had a
RightMouse popup menu where you could choose the layout (like in some
M$ applications). This way, it would be possible to have different layouts
of toolbars in applications with multiple toolbars.
To solve the problem with default toolbar look, I think there should be a
new GtkToolbarStyle option, GTK_TOOLBAR_DEFAULT, which lets GTK/Gnome choose
the look depending on application- or system-wide settings.
