gnome libs don't compile

I'm sorry about this very newbie like question, but I can't seem to
compile the gnome libs downloaded from the CVS repository.

Every time i clean and autogen, everything seems okay.
Then i run make and it gives me an error for "undefined reference to 
gtk_widget_ref" and gtk_widget_unref"

what's my error? and how can i fix it?
