Just for the record. I don't get this from the tarball, so it must be
something to do with my auto* tools. However, I've uninstalled the
existing ones and installed automake-1.4-p5, autoconf-2.52, and
libtool-1.4.2 from source tarballs, and this still happens.
I've moved on since then.
