Actually, you should try to avoid them altogether. The Davenport Group is
going to move DocBook to XML sooner or later, probably sooner, as a beta DTD
already exists, and XML doesn't support </>. In fact, if you avoid this and a
couple of other SGML-specific constructs, you'll be able to port the SGML
documents to XML without any changes (except the header) when that day comes.
