Ah yes! I think I know the problem. This is something which is handy for
any other package on a RedHat system. Whenever Installing from tarballs
go for something like this

./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc
make
make install

instead of the standard

./configure
make
make install

Try the first one and tell me
