My suggestion for now would be:

 - let's give the widgets meaningful names in glade
 - add the function calls to the C code

If you develop a patch, can you please add it to bugzilla under the
"gnome-terminal" product? Looks like another weekend of gnome-terminal
hacking coming up for me...
