gdk pixbuf animation

can i put a gdk-pixbuf animation into a GnomeCanvas?
i have the normal GnomeCanvasPixbuf stuff working, but when i tried to
change it into an animated pixbuf, it segfaulted on me. Has anyone done
this before?
