Well, I had the same problem. I am running the Helix distribution on
SuSE Linux 6.3.
By accident, I got to it.
Just deleted the directory 'servers' in /opt/gnome/etc/CORBA and things
went back to normal, i.e. I could launch quicklaunch_applet again and
the control center worked again. Strange.
