panel applet not reloading

Apologies if this is an inappropriate list for this question.

A panel applet I have written works fine, except it is not reloaded when
the panel is restarted.  I have to execute the applet manually every time.

When I compare my applet to others, I don't see anything outstanding missing.
Is there some callback I am missing?

Any clues would be much appreciated.
