CVS login

I've been trying to get the current sources from gnome and attempted to get to
the 
anoncvs.gnome.org server as follows.

export CVSROOT=':pserver:anonymous@anoncvs.gnome.org:/cvs/gnome'
cvs login
(Logging in to anonymous@anoncvs.gnome.org)
CVS password: 
cvs [login aborted]: connect to anoncvs.gnome.org:2401 failed: Connection
refused

Any ideas why this might not work ?
Do I have the correct server ?
Port 2401 appears not to be serviced at all.
