Right now the .deb packages are in a staging area to work all the bugs out
and make sure all the packages are compiled against the proper libraries.
There will be glibc 2.0 and 2.1 versions of everything (slink/potato).
If you want to use the experimental staging area packages, read:

http://www.debian.org/~jim/debian-gtk-gnome/README

Once the packages in the staging area are moved into the main
distribution, or you have Apt pointed at the staging area, you simply need
to type:

$ apt-get update
$ apt-get install gmc gnome-control-center gnome-panel gnome-session \
   gnome-games gnome-terminal gnome-utils

Add any other applications you want to have to the list. One of
enlightenment, icewm-gnome, or wmaker-gnome would be a good idea. If you
want, you can just apt-get install gnome-apt first, then do a search for
gnome and install all the packages that show up.

There is no need to worry about the library packages, Apt will
automatically obtain and install them.
