I guess the idea was you could dynamically flip between profiles, e.g.
for different screen resolutions. You might save the current profile in
the session. But we never put named sessions in the UI either, so that
wouldn't be all that useful.
My current thinking on sessions is that we might just dump the whole
session management thing and replace it with a simpler mechanism for an
orderly logout without losing data, and a simpler mechanism for "startup
programs" - but I'm not personally hacking on this area, and the thread
is probably best started on desktop-devel-list.
