Just thought I would mention that I got it working.

I installed pango and glib etc. Set PKG_CONFIG_PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH to
reflect the installs and libgda and libgnomedb compiled OK. Then I got
mergeant out of CVS and it compiled as well.
