[gnome-db] Latin1 to UTF-8?

I have a GnomeDbCombo connected to a data model from an ODBC query that
contains ISO Latin1 characters (specifically, e acute, 233). I'm getting
the following message on the console:
WARNING **: Invalid UTF8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text()
The characters up to the offending character are displayed correctly, but
subsequent characters are not displayed.
