[gnome-db] Can Gnome-db do??

I’m a very very new to the database world. 
I’m using Mandrake Linux at work and my boss wants me
to have a SMALL database at this Linux system for the
following purpose:
-User in the manufacturing can log problem.
-My boss can receive this information from his PC
running windows.
Can someone out there tell me can I do those tasks
with Gnome? And where can I start?
Does any other database can do these task with less
work?
