[gnome-db] GNOME 2.0 status

Hi!

This is a quick note about the GNOME 2 port, which is getting really
really nice :-)

* basic database stuff is working. This includes opening/closing
connections, transactions, and, more important, SQL command execution.
The UI (gnome-db) does not work very well yet, but all this from plain
libgda should work.

* MySQL provider is now the only 100% ported of the providers. The
default, ODBC, Postgres and Oracle providers are almost fully ported to
the new GdaServer API. There are still missing the rest of the
providers, which were not even fully completed in the GNOME 1.x version,
so this does not matter a lot.
New providers can now be easily implemented, with a very nice API which
(really) hides the CORBA stuff (not as previous API, which failed in
hiding all the complexity.

* the XML query library written by Gerhard has been ported to GNOME 2 by
Cleber. It now uses a gda_xql_ prefix, thus being 100% integrated in the
libgda library

* the frontend and widget library is the most incomplete part. It is
still missing a lot of the functionality provided in the stable version.
But well, now that most of the basic parts are working, it is just a
matter of putting some work on it to complete it.

So, all this means that my plan of having the re-factoring version
(almost) ready when GNOME 2.0 hits the streets can be accomplished,
which means that there won't be any need of porting the stable version
to GNOME 2.

Anyway, this is also a call that volunteers are always welcome :-), and
that now, with a cleaner and much better API, it is very easy to
contribute, so please, we need more people to put a bit of their times
:-)
Also, I really want people to contribute in this phase of the
development, since it is now that we can take into account all opinions,
and not later, when we'll be having lots of code written :-)

cheers
