Thank you for the tips.
I've been told the least painful way would be to go with a total 
distribution packet like mandrake or yellowdog. After a bit of reading 
I've decided on yellowdog, since it seems to be the easiest to install.
I'm downloading the iso files, don't know how to turn them into nice 
and shiny CD's, but will cross that bridge when I get there.
