Blank Gnome Desktop

On my desktop machine, I have lost all icons and menu bars from my Gnome 
desktop. When I boot up XDarwin, either rootless or full screen, Gnome 
1.4 will boot up. The splash screen comes up, and the startup hints box 
appears. There is nothing else on the screen. It worked one day and not 
the next. I have the same configuration on my laptop and everything 
works fine.

Any ideas?
