Hmm, you're right - pasting from GTK+ apps works ok but after copying
iso2 characters from gnome-terminal I get iso1 counterparts (but not
underscores - probably you see them because you're using some
multibyte encoding).
Doesn't STRING support only iso1 characters _by definition_?
