actually, its "refs", not "regs", michael ;)

and the env vars are:
BONOBO_DEBUG_FLAGS=refs:aggregate:lifecycle:running:object
and
BONOBO_DEBUG_DIR=<path>
if the latter is set to a non-null value, the debugging output goes to
files <path>/bonobo-debug-<pid>
