Standard idl files

Hi,

One of the goals of the GNOME project seems to be easy interoperability
between application.
So, I was wondering why it didn't seem to specify simple and very
specialized IDL interfaces for common applications, such as a browser
interface, a downloader interface and so on. That way, applications needing
to launch a web browser, or to download a file would only have to use one
of these interface.
Is there any reason for not having such interfaces (maybe there is already
a better way to handle that) ?
