I am sorry for mentioning GConf in my initial mail. I SO VERY NOT WANTED

Anyway, to answer your question: to use the configuration system from your
non-GNOME application, you can do one of the following:
1, if you are developing on a platform that can use `native C code' (i.e.
not something like Java running on a VM), you can just use the GConf
client-side API.
2, If you are developing on something else, but have CORBA, you should be
able to use OAF and the Bonobo interface to GConf (i.e. the
ideal, wrapper-only bonobo-conf). This is the case I was referring to in
my question. NOTE: This is a genuine question, not some kind of
agenda/flame hidden inside a technical question.
