Out of curiosity, have you looked at the OMG's Common Object Service
documents? There is a Persistence Service defined, but what you're
talking about sounds more like the Externalization service. I don't know
these specifications intimately, so I can't say absolutely that they'd
apply, but you might want to take a look at some of the pdfs under
http://www.omg.org/library/csindx.html
