[Fwd: Re: old search interface bugs]

Hi,

I put the question below to Curtis. I don't have any spare time today to work on bugs. I'm trying if I can to help rid the Nautilus bug list of old bugs. Please feel free to discuss or take action on the bugs mentioned below. Anything remaining I will try and clear up myself later on this evening or tomorrow.

Cheers,

Simon

Luis said it would be a good idea to ask you what you want to do with
all the old search interface bugs as you are currently thinking of
reimplementing it.

I'm currently trying to clear out all of the old bugs in bugzilla
whenever I have a bit of spare time.

I assume you mean Nautilus's search interface. Most of Medusa's bugs
are attached to the DB, indexer, and idle daemon, and I will close them
when I have replaced them with gnome-metadata.

I propose we remove all Medusa code from Nautilus an close the majority
of the bugs. The fact is, search was only in Nautilus for a short
time. Medusa never ran with Nautilus 2.x. Nautilus 2.x will not
compile if Medusa is installed. People are making an effort to maintain
the Nautilus-Medusa code without testing that it truly works. My
efforts to get Search to run failed because Medusa is not a service
anymore, the search code is GNOME 1.4, and the UI will never be
accepted. The unstable version of Nautilus force search to operate
using new features. We simply must start again.
I think every bug assigned to rebecka eazel com can be removed since
they address bugs either don't exist in the backend anymore, or because
we could never reimplement the old search UI.

Removing the dead Medusa code will fix some of these issues.
