RELEASE: GNOME 1.4.1 Release candidate 1



Hi.

After a long wait the GNOME community is happy to announce the
availability of the final release candidate before the final GNOME 1.4.1
release. One of the main points of this release is handling parallell
installs with the newly released GNOME 2.0 Alpha. Other than that
there's been a quite few changes since the last beta:

ORBit (0.5.8 -> 0.5.13)

* Robustness fixes, code cleanup, leak fixes...

bonobo (1.0.8 -> 1.0.19)

* pixbuf cache for improved performance, robustness fixes, crash in http
moniker fixed, better focus handling, leaks plugged, general
optimization...

GConf (1.0.4 -> 1.0.7)

* better handling of utf-8, more robust, use DB 3.3 and 3.2 if found,
warning/compile/portability fixes.

control-center (1.4.0.1 -> 1.4.0.3)

* sort themes case-insensitively, select newly installed theme by
default, portability/compile/warning fixes, let sound-capplet restore
gmix mixer levels at startup, fix crash in theme-switcher on Solaris,
don't truncate Debian name in the splash screen.

eel (1.0.1 -> 1.0.2)

* speed up preference handling, general optimization, work better with
multibyte locales, don't crash on null MIME-types from gnome-vfs.

gdk-pixbuf (0.11.0 -> 0.16.0)

* support for 16-bpp BMPs and ICOs, support for 32-bpp ICOs, portability
fixes, working python bindings, new BMP loaded from GTK+.

gdm (2.2.4.1 -> 2.2.5.4)

* SECURITY FIX! reset egid to user gid before starting a session.
* robustness fixes, option to force 24-hour clock, work better with pam,
better error reporting, work with KDE face directories, fix crash on
FreeBSD, fixed crash in greeter with timed logins, 

ggv (1.0.1 -> 1.0.2)

* use intltool, handle filenames with spaces better

gnome-applets (1.4.0.4 -> 1.4.0.5)

* man pages, make gtik use gnome-vfs, fix crashes in gtik, fix gtik font
selection dialog, made gnotes more robust, better multibyte handling in
gnotes, gkb remembers its configuration, make timezone handling work in
asclock (needs xearth)

- gnome-core (1.4.0.4 -> 1.4.0.6)

* many fixes to session management, translucent panel, fixes for crashes
in panel on startup, screenshot functionality added, support multiple
mailboxes in mailcheck applet, support multiline output from imap
servers in mailcheck applet, compile/warning/robustness fixes, multibyte
support in gnome-terminal, copy menu item added in gnome-terminal, fixes
for underlining of urls in gnome-terminal, paste the clipboard - not the
selection in gnome-terminal, disable remote browsing in
gnome-help-browser, fix crashes in help-browser, fix leaks in the panel,
fix crashes in the panel when running programs in a terminal from the
run dialog, plus a lot of other minor fixes.

The bottom line is: You really want this one :)

gnome-libs (1.4.1.1 -> 1.4.1.4)

* man pages, fix compilation with db1 (to some degree at least), fix
crashes in gtk-xmhtml (for help browser), mem leaks plugged in
gnome-mime, compiler/warning fixes, better multibyte handling in zvt,
report mousewheel events correctly to apps in zvt, fix crashes in
gnome-mdi, work with KDE session management, plus more

This is needed to get the above gnome-core release to build because of
the added multibyte support in gnome-terminal/zvt

gnome-print (0.29 -> 0.35)

* lots of bugs fixed, more robust

gnome-utils (1.4.0.99 -> 1.4.1.2)

* fix resizing in gcalc, more features in gtt, less crashes in gtt

gnome-vfs (1.0.1 -> 1.0.4)

* portability fixes, fixes for FTP directory loading, detect Koffice
MIME-types, random crash and leak fixes, SSL and https support, fix NFS
method, fix buffer overflow, nntp module.

gnomemm (1.2.1 -> 1.2.2)

* 

gtkmm (1.2.7 -> 1.2.8)

* 

libgtop (1.0.12 -> 1.0.13)

* security fix.

libole2 (0.2.3 -> 0.2.4)

* fix leaks and bugs.

librep (0.14 -> 0.15.2)

* 

librsvg (1.0.1 -> 1.0.2)

* fix crash on empty SVG file, better handling of multibyte.

libxml (1.8.15 -> 1.8.17)

* 

nautilus (1.0.4 -> 1.0.6)

* speed improvements, support for JFS, better integration with KDE,
authentication dialog support, show uptime in hardware view, better
looking music view, fix crash in notes and history on startup, leak
fixes, better i18n support, handle unmonting removable media better.

oaf (0.6.6 -> 0.6.8)

* handle multiple activations better, don't crash on a badly formed
config file, fix evolution hang on startup on FreeBSD, portability
fixes, robustness fixes.

panelmm (0.1 -> 0.2)

*
