System for storing and managing desktop preferences.

Fixes
=====

- don't crash on 64-bit platforms (Jacob)
- make some key data types opaque
- remove some namespace pollution in exported symbol list
- remove g_warning from gconf_engine_get_for_address
- set a > 0 buffer size on outgoing connections to clients, 
  so that we don't hang when trying to notify them.
  Should fix occasional lockup problems when a client 
  was locked up.
