I am glad to announce the gnome-db-0.25 release. This is a
development release, so do not expect it to work immediately, but
it has been thorougly tested so it should work with a minimal amount
of work from your part. You can download it from
http://www.gnome.org/gnome-db/download.html
GNOME-DB is a complete suite of libraries/applications that allow you
to access different database servers using a uniform API.
There are some missing things all around the suite, but it has been
used
for basic database access for some months, so you should find it
enough
if your needs are not very "exotic".
I would be very grateful if people interested could send bug reports,
ideas, or whatever. GNOME-DB discussion takes part at the main mailing
list (gda@gams.at, and gda-request@gams.at with 'Subscribe' as the
subject
to subscribe). You can find some information and related links at the
GNOME-DB web site (http://www.gnome.org/gnome-db/).
This new release features:
* lots of bug fixing
* internationalization support: German, French, Hungarian, Norwegian,
Spanish and Russian
* XML export: allow you to export your entire database to XML (Import
will work in the next release)
* the new GDA-UI library allow an easy integration of GNOME-DB in
GNOME applications, containing a rich set of widgets
* total rewriting of the Front-End application in order to incorporate
the new widgets provided by the UI library
* now there are 2 stable servers: ODBC and PostgreSQL. Current work is
being done on finishing the ORACLE server, but right
now it does not work (so DON'T use --with-oracle in configure).
Also,
the Sybase server is on the way
* a little bit more of documentation (not too much though)
