ANNOUNCE: BEAST with BSE escaped

Hi everyone,

just now it happened, a BEAST infected with BSE escaped out
of its carefully watched cave and is probably on its way to
occupy many people's harddisks.

So since its now out anyways, i should probably expose some
of its attributes in order for people to watch out and track
it when it comes across.

BEAST (the BEdevilled Audio System) is a Gtk+/GNOME based
front-end to BSE (the Bedevilled Sound Engine).
BSE comes with the abilities to load/store songs and synthesis
networks (in .bse files), play them modify them, etc.
BEAST provides the necessary GUI bits to make actuall use of BSE.
Synthesis filters (BseSources) are implemented in shared library
modules, and get loaded on demand.
Synthesis plugins currently implemented:
-	noise generator
-	generic oscillator for various wave forms, such as
	sine, saw, triangle...
-	FIR filter with lowpass and highpass mode
-	multiplier
-	adder (can also run in subtract mode)
-	recording source

Further information can be found on:
	http://beast.gtk.org/

Tarballs are available from:
	ftp://beast.gtk.org/pub/beast/v0.3
beast-0.3.0.tar.gz
contains BSE, the GTK+/GNOME based front-end BEAST,
a couple of plugins and some test .bse files.
	You will need GLib 1.2.6, GTK+ 1.2.6, gnome-libs >=
1.0.16 and either OSS or ALSA installed on your system
to successfully build it. GdkPixbuf is also featured
	if that is available.
beast-data-0.3.tar.gz
contains a set of .bse samples that may prove to be
	usefull for song composition.

A mailing list (merely an alias) is also available at
	beast@beast.gtk.org
send an email to timj@beast.gtk.org to get subscribed.

The 0.3 version of BEAST/BSE is still very early ALPHA stuff,
while the whole thing should behave reasonable stable, there
are still a bunch of features/plugins missing, and the GUI
could probably stand some GUI Squad team going over it ;)
The synthesis network route editor has a couple of redrawing
problems, but those are actually due to a buggy AA GnomeCanvas
and rerender problems in the GdkPixbuf library, readjusting
the zoom factor may help here.

The website is currently in seek of a webmaster, and a decent
logo also has yet to be created.

Please send stability/build reports, feature requests, pizza,
new .bse files and broken speakers to timj@beast.gtk.org or
beast@beast.gtk.org.
