No speach from Gnopernicus in SuSE 10

Hello all,

I am having a problem with SuSE 10 that is not reproduceable on SuSE 9.3 or 10.1 but is encountered on other machines using the 64 bit and 32 bit versions of SuSE 10.

When I start Gnopernicus I get errors saying that it cant start the festival server.  When I run festival_server from the console I get errors like the following when gnopernicus starts.

audio spooler has died unexpectantly
pipe_open: file to start audsp 

Do any of you have any suggestions?
