Accessing contents of the screen

Hello,

I'm new to this list, and therefore I don't nkowif you have discussed
about something related to the following berofre. Anyway I hope someone
can give me some useful tips so that I could get started with my new
project.

After reading some dox it seems to me it should be possible to write an
application which can snoop for everything being shown on the screen. I've
written a C language braille display program for a braille display device
here in Finland. It runs as a daemon in Linux boxes and works in text mode
and is quite widely used by the blind here.

Now I'm asking for help on what function calls should I use to get GNOME
apps tell to my program what tey're putting on the screen. Is there any
good example code available? How about documentation? I visited the ATK
library pages but I don't know if it's of use for me?

Any dox, links, example code and assistance is highly appreciated!

		Yours, Petri
