by the way, I have changed the calls to XFlush() to read

XSync (spi_get_display (), False);

since XFlush doesn't guarantee that the requests have been serviced yet.
I also had to add a 10 msec padding to the XTest call delays, since
XTest doesn't seem to be honoring the timing values reliably :-(
