gnome2 and fonts

Hmmm...Why doesn't Nautilus (v1.1.5) change fonts when I tell it to in
the Edit Preferences section.  Also, why doesn't GTK+ (v1.3.14) or GNOME
(v2.0.0) change fonts when I tell it to through the
Applications->Preferences->Font preferences editor?  Is this not
implemented at this time?  What other information do I need to provide
to help out with this?
