Like I said, I understand this well and good, but for backwards 
compatability, IE programs that want to use GTK1.2, what am i supposed 
to do.

ie..

tonhe hiku:/server/home/tonhe/xcdroast-0.98alpha10$ find / | grep 
gdk-pixbuf.h | less

And nothing is found... and yet..
root hiku:~# ldconfig -v |grep gdk
	libgdk_imlib.so.1 -> libgdk_imlib.so.1.9.10
	libgdk-1.2.so.0 -> libgdk-1.2.so.0.9.1
	libgdkcardimage.so.0 -> libgdkcardimage.so.0.0.0
	libgdk_pixbuf_xlib-2.0.so.0 -> libgdk_pixbuf_xlib-2.0.so.0.0.6
	libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0 -> libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0.0.6
	libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0 -> libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.0.6
