Ok, in  case someone is interested in this error, I've finally found a
solution. The autogen.sh script calls macros/autogen.sh, which doesn't
work for me, so I changed it to macros2/autogen.sh and voila it works.
Actually, the strange autoconf '***BUG' errors are there yet, but it runs
through and finally I have gnome-common installed. So now the second
package waits for me (hey, who laughed and said I don't make
progress! =).

[Ravi]: Did you need to change this in autogen.sh too? I suppose not. And
do you have any of the '***BUG' messages? Probably there goes something
strange on with my setup.
