Re: about including gpaint

I am working on getting gpaint to be a in a completed
stable state by November 20. Since gpaint is
basically xpaint ported to GNOME, it is obvious that
most necessary pieces are there already and this is
not difficult work. I also plan to use GNOME-specific
libraries for image loading/saving, printing, etc.
Basically by November 20 one can expect to have a
paint program that supports all image formats that
gdk-pixbuf supports, has basic drawing tools (lines,
circles, rectangles, brushes, different line widths,
etc.) (partially there today), color palettes in the
UI, cut and paste of image regions, multiple image
support (multiple image being edited at the same time
without multiple copies of gpaint running) (already
there today), plus xpaint's image processing features
(already there today) (handy features without the need
of opening Gimp). So think of xpaint with a
GNOME-compliant interface, using GNOME functionalities
as much as possible. That's what gpaint will bring.
So comparing to xpaint, it does not offer anything
new, but it may just make the GNOME environment more
attractive and productive.

I don't know if Bonobo is stablized for GNOME 1.4, but
if the APIs are fixed it is possible to make gpaint
into a Bonobo component. But currently I am not sure
if this can be made in time for GNOME 1.4.
