I have to disagree. For start, hiding everything under right-click menus
isn't very intuitive. Agreed, once you learn that, it starts to become
more easy, but this with the right-click menu being used for everything
tends to confuse new users (even if the first tip I think says to use
right-clicks, but most people don't read tips, and it's easy to click
away and forget about).
There has been some discussions about gimp on gnome-gui-list.
Gimp is intended to be a feature-complete graphics app, but
unfortunately this also makes it complex. It has LOTS of sub-menus, and
often with cryptic names. Gimp is sure everything and the kitchen sink
graphics-wise. Stating that gimp is the only GNOME drawings tool would
be hurting novice users that only want to draw a rectangle or a line and
be done with it.
Also, on my system gimp takes some time to load. The loading of all
modules and stuff make it take some time to start. Not annoying if you
plan to use it for drawing some complex artwork or using filters on a
whole directory with images, but annoying if you only want to draw
_very_ basic stuff as fast as possible.
I think a more basic drawing tool is definately needed, and that it
wouldn't interfere with gimp being the app for more "professional" use.
