[gedit-list] gedit Upgrade 2.8.1 -> 2.10.3 errors

I have gedit 2.8.1 and while I am trying to install the latest
version I receive the following error:

Requested 'glib-2.0 >= 2.6.0' but version of GLib is 2.4.7
configure: error: Package requirements (
        glib-2.0 >= 2.6.0
        gtk+-2.0 >= 2.6.0
        gtksourceview-1.0 >= 1.2.0
        libgnomeui-2.0 >= 2.6.0
        libglade-2.0 >= 2.4.0
        eel-2.0 >= 2.6.0
        libgnomeprintui-2.2 >= 2.6.0
) were not met.

I was hoping that this istall would be "easy" since there is such
little difference between 2.8.1 and 2.10.3. 

The ./configure program prompts me to alter the PKG_CONFIG_PATH
environment variable. 

Could someone give me a helping hand with this issue?
