I use gucharmap, for viewing and learning gtk-programing.
But 'my' plugin:
 + Inserts the symbols, directly to
   the current gedit-active buffer, in the cursor position.
 + Can be user-configured to specific symbol-sets.
Can gucharmap do the above?
