Hmmm, weird.  I just checked again to make sure I'm not crazy, and for 
me it is scrolling by entire pages.  I should have mentioned in my gedit 
version and OS platform in my original email, maybe this is version 
specific?

lapham exprod > gedit --version
Gnome gedit 2.4.0
lapham exprod > head -1 /etc/issue
