Dear Gdome2 users,
it seems we're close to the time when Gdome2 will switch by default to
GLIB2. In terms of source code this changes absolutely nothing at
present. In fact, if you configure gdome2 (CVS version) with
./configure --enbable-glib-2
it will compile and run just fine, but it will link against the new
version of glib.
I know that some of you have contrasting feelings about depending on
glib[2]. In particular, if we are switching to GLIB2 why, then, don't we
rewrite gdome2 so that it uses GObjects for its class hierarchy? My main
concerns remain memory occupation and performances, and am not at all
sure that GObject would make any of these things better, actually I
think it would make them worse. But given the lack of knowledge about
GObjects' internals, please let me know if I'm wrong.
