Small problem with Xterminal and GDM

Hi,

I've a nice old Xterminal (HP EnvizeX). If I configure it to do a direct 
request to my laptop, it works fine. If I let it do an indirect request, 
I get the chooser, with the laptop itself and my server in it.
If I click any of both, the Xterminal returns after a while to the 
chooser again....
Exactly the same happens if I use my server instead of my laptop. Thus 
direct requests work. Chooser is displayed on indirect request, but no 
connections can be made to any hosts then. My server runs xdm instead of 
gdm.
I've no clue on how I can debug this. It see nowhere some usefull log files.
I hope somebody can help.
