Hi,
After some years without problems gdm suddenly started to write the
following message in the /var/log/message file:
Sep 20 13:55:05 pulsar gdm[6615]: Failed to start X server several
times in a short period; disabling display :0
This messages is repeated every 30 seconds.
After that the machine disappears from the chooser window of our
X-Terminals, so we are not able to login anymore.
After deleting /tmp/.X0-lock and /tmp/.X11-unix I kill the X process
and then it runs again for some time until the failure happens again.
I cannot find the cause of this problem!!
The machine runs RedHat 7.1 with kernel 2.4.2-2., XFree86-4.0.3-5
and gdm-2.0beta2-45
Regards, Frans
